June O’Neill earned her Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University. She worked for Nixon’s Council of Economic Advisors as an economist until 1976 and later conducted economic research at the Urban Institute. She became director of the Congressional Budget Office in 1995 and served in that position until 1999.
In this interview, Dr. O’Neill discusses government response to debt and deficits back to the 1970s and, in particular, her tenure as director of the CBO.
