Room One

A Class of Their Own
The Academic Lives of Women at Cal, 1910-1915

Female student enrollment hovered around 35% of the student population during this period. Women and men shared classes, but outside that setting, extra-curricular and social activities were largely separate. Male students did not particularly want to integrate their organizations, so women often established their own, which both groups may have found more comfortable at the time.
