Peter Plate. Sleepwalkers (1985) 46 pp. [pbo]
In this novella, Faceless James Kunkler is in prison, serving a life
sentence on conspiracy charges. He has been inside for three years when
he wins an appeal and is released on his own recognizance pending a new
court date. On his way out, he is warned to stay away from Sgt. Lackner,
the San Francisco police officer who arrested him. Back in San Francisco,
he breaks into an abandoned Victorian on Oak Street and retrieves a handgun
he had hidden there three years earlier. He encounters ghosts in the house,
meets up with his former friends Reyna and Charlene, has a violent encounter
with Lackner, and exacts his revenge.
