Robert B. Parker. Hugger Mugger (2000) 307 pp.
Boston private eye Spenser is on the move again. In this outing, he goes to Georgia, and into the world of high-stakes thoroughbred racing, when he is hired by Walter Clive to protect a two-year old colt named Hugger Mugger. The horse, who is supposed to become the next Secretariat, has been receiving threats and Clive wants Spenser to supervise the security operation and find out who is behind the attacks. The investigation takes Spenser, briefly, to San Francisco where he definitely combines business with pleasure when his longtime girlfriend Susan meets him there for a little R&R.
