One folio, 164 × 100 mm., an autograph note by Ludovico Castelvetro (1505? - 1571), written in a small noting hand, in Latin and Italian. Autograph notes divided into four parts: 1) geographical information on Vaucluse; 2) biographical notes on Petrarch; 3) text and notes on the poem "Nuova bellezza ..." ( Rime disperse , XI); 4) notes on the Africa : inc. "La villa di Laura è detta Cabrieres nella valle chiusa ...", expl. "... Il Beroaldo sopra quel luogo per Columela, et Celso"; the transcription of the poem is as follows:
"Sonetto di messer Francesco Petrarca:

Nuova bellezza in habito gentile
Volse il mio core al’amorosa schiera,
Ove ’l mal si sostene e ’l ben si spera.
Gir mi convene et star come altri vuole,
Poi che al vago pensiero fu posto un freno
Di dolci sdegni et di piatosi squardi,
E ’l chiaro nome e ’l suon delle parole
De la mia donna, il ben viso sereno
Son le faville, Amor, perché ’l cor m’ardi.¹
I’ pure spero quanto che sia tardi,
Ch’avegna elli si mostra accerba et [fera cancelled] fiera,
Humil amante vince donna altera".

A small round library stamp appears on the recto and verso of the folio with the monogram RCD and the inscription "Collection Chateau Montfleury"; bought from L.
