Paper (Tête de boeuf, similar to Briquet 15309 and 15310), ff. 1 (modern paper) + 4 + 1 (modern paper), not foliated, 192 × 140 (152 × 98) mm., 19-20 long lines, one quire of four folios, frame ruled in dry point, perhaps by folding the paper, written by one person using hierarchy of scripts, text in bastarda with cursive gloss. Decoration: f. 2, a 2ߚline red initial with flourishes extending into the margin; initials slashed in red and the gloss is often underlined in red. Binding, modern pasteboards, with "Petrarca - Epistola (Fam. VII, 17)" written on the spine. f. 1, blank.

"Voluntariam in omni genere famulatus servitutem nihil melius, nihil utilius, nihil denique studiorum infantum praesedi conducibilius arbitratus sum vir humanissime ...", expl. "... apprime dilectens nec non vernam vestrum Michaelem valete in altissimo, datae vicesima quinta augusti esset et placidum capesserent fessa soporem. Anno salutis 93. Baccalaureus Ioannes Fabri Rotwilensis patriam quondam tempore in Esslingen provisor".

VII, 17, version γ with gloss, title "Pro instruendis curandisque iuvenibus utilis doctrina Francisci Petrache cuiusdam eciam adolescentis ad magistrum suum reconmendacio", inc. "Adolescentulum nostrum consily inopem ...", expl. "... nisi a quo prius ipsa contempta est. Vale Patavie septimo kalendas octobris propere scripta silencio nocturno intempesto" (ed. Rossi, Le Familiari, II, 133-36).

Written in Germany , s. XVex.; ms. signed on f. 1v, "Baccalaureus Ioannes Fabri Rotwilensis patriam ..." of Esslingen, Germany, who assigns the date of ’93 = 1493.

On the front flyleaf recto is written the number " 29588 "; from the W. Fiske bequest, Cat., p. 42.
