Regents agree to issue contracts to non-signers but require a signed oath or other informal affirmation. They appoint a committee to confer with the faculty advisory committees.
A majority of AS/NS expresses belief that Communist Party members should not be automatically barred from the faculty. AS/SS calls for an anonymous faculty poll to determine extent of support for the university policy on employment of Communists.
AS/NS and SS appoint the Davisson-Grant Committee, a special combined conference committee. “Non-signers” of the oath formally organize under the leadership of Edward Tolman, UC Berkeley professor of psychology.
