The Cased Photographs Project of The Bancroft Library has made available digital images and detailed descriptions of daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, and related photographs in the collections of The Bancroft Library and the California State Library. The main goals of this project were to preserve and to provide access to these exceedingly rare and significant pictorial documents, many of which date from the era of the California gold rush. The result is two electronic archival finding aids with linked digital images which are available as part of the Online Archive of California.
