George Cobbs Transcript
George Cobbs was born in Arkansas in 1936 but raised in Oakland, California. His father worked for the Naval Supply Center in Oakland before George joined the ILWU in the 1960s. While a longshoreman, Cobbs took many assignments at the Oakland Army Base and while there was in a position to observe the impact of the Vietnam War, the rise of intermodal shipping, and the closure of the base.
