Leon Wofsy Transcript

Leon Wofsy in the fall of 1964 was a newly hired member of the biology department, having the previous 18 years as a leading Communist Party official. He discusses his experiences in the Party, his assessment of FSM, his close personal relationship with Mario Savio and his and other faculty members’ support of FSM. He was cited in the 1965 California Burns Commission Report on un-American activities and had a public run-in with Governor Ronald Reagan over his opposition to the war in Vietnam. Wofsy is Professor Emeritus of Molecular and Cell Biology/ Immunology and has remained politically active.
