Bruce Barthol Transcript

Conducted by Lisa Rubens in 2000, Regional Oral History Office, The Bancroft Library, University of California, Berkeley, 2013.

Phoot of Bruce Barthol from http://www.brucebarthol.com/

Bruce Barthol was an undergraduate at Berkeley and just beginning his career as a musician. He was the original bass player for Country Joe and the Fish--the band known perhaps best for their anti-Vietnam War anthum “Fixin to Die Rag.” This interview took place at the San Francisco Mime Troupe, where Barthol has been musical director since 1976. The interview reflects on Barthol’s liberal upbringing, travels with his family to Europe, experiences in FSM and the developing music scene in Berkeley.
