Search for a writer, last name first  (not case sensitive):
Brown, John Retrieves letters written by John Brown and letters written by John R. Brown When you choose "writer" as the primary sort, all the letters written by the same person will usually be sorted together. But when the name you search occurs as both a sole writer and as the second of two writers, all the letters by that person will not sort together. For example, letters written jointly by William Stotts and Mollie Clemens will be listed only under "Stotts, William," after all the letters to William Stotts alone, and not with the letters written by Mollie Clemens alone. To retrieve all the letters by Mollie Clemens sorted together, choose "date" as the primary sort.
Brown Retrieves letters written by John Brown and letters written by Joseph Brown, etc.

Search for an addressee, last name first  (not case sensitive):
Rockefeller, John Retrieves letters to John D. Rockefeller When you choose "addressee" as the primary sort, all the letters to the same person will usually be sorted together. But when the name you search occurs as both a sole addressee and as the second of two addressees, all the letters to that person will not sort together. For example, letters addressed jointly to Mary Moffett and Samuel Moffett will be listed only under "Moffett, Mary," after all the letters to Mary alone. To retrieve all the letters to Samuel Moffett sorted together, choose "date" as the primary sort.
Rockefeller Retrieves letters to John D. Rockefeller and letters to William Rockefeller, etc.
