The Bulletin published this story of Grinnell going to extraordinary lengths to obtain a California Grizzly specimen for the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology. The bear, lassoed by "cowpuncher" Andy Pekenhorn, was sold to Grinnell for $5. Grinnell used chloroform to permanently subdue the animal.
