THEODORE HENRY HITTELL
Theodore H. Hittell Interviews with Grizzly Adams: manuscript, 1857-1859

The 647-page handwritten manuscript contains Hittell's notes of detailed interviews with Grizzly Adams. Adams described his travels west from Massachusetts and his life in the wilds of California and the West, especially hunting, trapping, and training California Grizzlies. The pages contain numerous pencil annotations and editorial changes, indicating that Hittell used these interview notes as the initial draft for the published volume.
