This front-page illustration presents a fading image of "the native lord of the forests" as a ferocious and deadly combatant with a trio of miners turned hunters. Printed in 1873, this article happily reports that such incidents are now seldom heard of but in the records and history of the past, for now the more peaceful pursuits of agriculture are dominant.
