"The Grizzly," California Song Book, 1950

The California Grizzly Bear was a fitting symbol for San Francisco after the Earthquake and Fire of 1906. Wounded deeply by an arrow, the bear stands astride the rubble and destruction, refusing defeat, encouraging perseverance, and personifying the lyrics in the song, "The Grizzly."
